Confessions of a Forty Something F##k Up

By Alexandra Potter

ISBN 9781529022780

I have spoken about this book so much and cannot believe that it has taken me this long to do a book review.

I loved this book, it had everything, humour, sadness, friendships, relationships. Even though it is a fiction book I did feel like I was reading an autobiography and I do know that part of it was based on Alexandra’s own life.

In the book Nell starts a secret podcast called “confessions of a forty year old f**k up” and is surprised how many people can relate to her.

I am sure every women reading this can relate to different aspects of the book, with questions like :

  • What’s next in life?
  • How did I get here?
  • Is this what life is all about?

What this book demonstrates so fantastically is that life can have so many unexpected twists and turns and it may not always be what the plan was, and that’s ok!

What the book also taught me and I am sure many others that read the book, was how much social media can influence us and even if we don’t consciously realise.

I have been guilty of this and I am sure many others will say that they have as well.

What the book did get me to think about is that we never know what is going on behind closed doors, individuals struggling but not opening up, but if we did open up how different things can be.

The friendships and family relations are so beautifully written and as a reader I did feel I was part of the “group” with all the characters becoming my friends.

The ending of the book is excellent  – I will just leave it at that.

Additional note:

This book spurred me on to start my Mums the word Interviews, which is already getting great reviews with other mums stating they can relate to the topics.
