Creating Safer Spaces for Women and Girls: Why the SafeHER Campaign Matters

At Her Place, we believe that every woman and girl deserves to feel safe — wherever she is. Whether walking home, travelling to work, meeting friends, or simply existing in public spaces, safety should never be a privilege; it should be a right.

That’s why we’ve launched the SafeHER Campaign — a movement designed to work closely with local councils, businesses, and community organisations to create safer, more inclusive spaces for women and girls. Our first partnership is with Crewe Town Council, where we’re collaborating with Crewe BID and Aviva Trains to raise awareness, train partners, and make tangible changes across the town.

But Crewe is just the start. We plan to roll out the SafeHER campaign in Winsford, Nantwich, and across the wider Cheshire area, empowering communities to take action, speak up, and know what support is available.

Why This Work is so Important

Too often, our public spaces haven’t been designed with women’s safety in mind. Poor lighting, isolated walkways, and secluded areas can make even the most familiar places feel unsafe. Many women adapt their behaviour every day — changing routes, texting friends when they get home, holding keys between their fingers — because they don’t feel safe.

That isn’t good enough.

The SafeHER campaign is about changing that reality. It’s about empowering communities to recognise what needs to change, providing the tools and partnerships to make those changes happen, and ensuring that local women know about the safe spaces, services, and support available to them.

Creating Real Change Together

Safety isn’t just about signs and stickers on windows — it’s about a collective commitment to cultural change. We’re working with local businesses, community groups, and transport providers to make sure women and girls not only feel safe but are safe.

We’re also championing education and awareness: encouraging conversations about respect, boundaries, and allyship, and ensuring that everyone — men and women alike — understands their role in building safer communities.

Our Mission

At Her-Place, our mission is simple but powerful: to make every space a safe space. We’re not just identifying the problems — we’re helping to fix them. And we’re doing it by working together, listening to local women, and making safety a shared responsibility.

Because every woman deserves to walk home without fear. Every girl deserves to feel safe in her community. And together, through SafeHER, we can make that a reality.
